Pay As You Throw (PAYT)

Pay as you throw (PAYT) is the concept that people should only have to pay for the amount of garbage actually thrown away.  Many people do not fill up a 96 gallon cart each week.  Therefore, why should they have to pay for it?  Many waste haulers offer graduated cart sizes or a bag system.  People are able to save money by choosing a cart size that meets their needs.

Following is an advertisement that was developed by the Southwest Michigan Solid Waste Consortium and is put in various publicatons to remind people that they do have choices.

For more information regarding PAYT check out the EPA's website at: www.epa.gov/payt
