IPM Workshop On Phomopsis and Berry Moth Control
By: Rufus Isaacs, MSU Entomology
|
In late March 2006, MSU and Cornell researchers will provide a one day intensive workshop for Michigan grape growers, focused on cost-effective control of phomopsis and grape berry moth. Our visiting speaker will be Dr. Andrew Landers, agricultural engineer from Cornell (pictured), who specializes in improving sprayer technology to optimize pest control. He has over 30 years experience with fruit and vegetable crop sprayers, and has worked with New Yorks grape industry for eight years. Dr. Landers research focuses on how growers can get the greatest bang for their pesticide application buck. He will present a workshop on Optimizing vineyard sprayers: impact of nozzles air-speed, and drift that will encompass his practical research working with New York grape growers. Joining Dr. Landers, MSU researchers John Wise, Annemiek Schilder, and Rufus Isaacs will present workshop topics on the biology of key grape pests, the importance of coverage for different pesticide types, and results of trials to compare sprayers and water volumes for control of diseases and insects on grape clusters.
The workshop will be held at the Trevor Nichols Research Complex in Fennville, Michigan on Tuesday, March 28, 2006. Please visit the TNRC website for more details and driving directions: www.maes.msu.edu/tnrc/. Information on local area
