Michigan's Fruit Related Web Sites

MSU's Fruit IPM Web Site allows searching of back issues of the Fruit Crop Alert Team Newsletters. These often include articles about a particular insect pest or disease. The MSU Michigan Fruit Management Guide (formerly the Fruit Spraying Calendar) has been posted on the Internet.

The Fruit Area of Expertise Team which is made up of campus specialists and fruit extension agents now has a site.

The MSU Grape Pages are at www.grapes.msu.edu.

The MSU Blueberry Facts website is at www.blueberries.msu.edu.

The Southwest Michigan Research & Extension Center has a web site maintained by Bill Shane.

The Northwest Michigan Horticultural Research Station, maintained by Bill Klein, is strong in cherries.

The Clarksville Horticultural Extension Station web site contains Apple IPM and West Central Michigan fruit information. It is maintained by Philp Schawallier.

Trevor Nichols Research Complex has a page and posts their Insect Trap Data as well as their weather Data.

Berrien County MSUE has several fruit pages at their site. These are maintained by Dr. Al Gaus.

Rufus Isaacs MSU's has a Small Fruit Entomology website where he will be posting his research results.

Checkout the Michigan Fruit Belt Exhibit at the Fort Miami Historical Society.

The Michigan Department of Agriculture has lots of general information and links to national statistical databases.

There is a page of general agriculture links on this Van Buren MSUE site that has good general links for all farmers.

West Virginia University's Kearneysville Fruit Experiment Station is an excellent site with lots of information and pictures. This site is always improving!

The New York Experiment Station has lots of information. Cornell's Scaffolds Newsletter is a source of information for Great Lakes region apple growers. Cornell's Fruit Insect Fact Sheets from New York are good sources of basic information on many important fruit pests and benefical insects.

Penn State has posted the Pennsylvania Tree Fruit Production Guide which is great andalso publishes Fruit Times.

Ontario's Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs has a great deal of the bulletins on the web in English and French. They also have some nice links.  

In Indiana, Purdue University has the Purdue Fruit and Vegetable Connection. This site has good information and links to Purdue's Facts For Fancy Fruit a short newsletter for Indiana fruit growers.

Ohio State's Midwest Small Fruit web site is also dedicated to small fruit and has many of Ohio's pest control recommendations online.

The University of Illinios maintains a Fruit and Vegetable IPM Site and also posts their Fruit and Vegetable News.

Rutgers' Plant & Pest Advisory Newsletter  for New Jersey is posted at the Virtual Orchard.

The University of Vermont's, UVM Apple Orchard has good information and a list of scab resistant apple cultivars.

Virginia Tech's Fruit Home Page, has good information from the Central Atlantic growing region. It contains lot of information for commercial growers and a good spray guide for back yard growers which works well in Michigan.

Washington State has a lot of sites.  The Washington Fruit Team has a good page. Wenatchee Tree Fruit Research Center is good as is the USDA/ARS Tree Fruit Research Lab. The Good Fruit Grower Magazine out of Yakima maintains an excellent page and so do WSU's North Central and Yakima counties.

Oregon State University maintains the Northwest Berry & Grape Infonet it is an excellent source of information for all small fruit.

University of Maine Apple IPM Site

The University of Massachusetts has both a Tree Fruit Team and a Small Fruits Team.

Auburn University in Alabama has put up a fruit page it is strong in peaches and also has a excellent article on frost and freeze protection and terminology

The University of Wisconsin has posted fruit pathology materials for apples and cranberries.

Other Good Fruit Sites

Fruit Farming is a stressful lifestyle check out the Cranberry Stressline for some good links on handling stress in farming. 

The Virtual Orchard - is an excellent site. Many eastern fruit sites are linked off this server.

The Virtual Orchard also maintains the apple-crop list server an E-mail list of apple researchers, extension workers and growers. Check it out and subscribe today!

The International Dwarf Fruit Tree Association or IDFTA is an organization dedicated to the understanding and use of dwarf fruit trees.

North American Fruit Explorers is a group dedicated to maintaining rare and unusual fruit varietirs.

National Clonal Germplasm Repository. USDA/ARS Corvallis, Oregon.

The USDA Fruit Laboratory in Beltville Maryland.

The Fireblight Web Site deals with that scourge of Southwest Michigan, Fireblight in apples and pears.
