Karen Waite came to help us with the difficulties in planning activities for the 5-8 year old (Cloverbud) age group.  We need to remember that our focus in 4-H should be on Youth Development as a whole, not just horses and 4-H.

Karen also helped clarify some of the questions about how to handle the different age breakdowns.  5 & 6 must have lead line in riding classes, and a parent/adult with them while at halter, not holding the rope.

7 & 8 can be in walk trot classes with the 9 year olds, but only the 9 year olds can place.  The other children will all received judges attention and participation ribbons.

Karen recommended that we follow form a Year End Association.   We will plan on beginning that in the spring.

Gymkhana should be only for 10 and over.

Rules meeting will be 10/12 at 2:00 at Melva DeVries’ house.

Clean up will be Oct. 5th for the booth and Nov. 9th for the stalls.

Tack Sale (maybe include Craft Sale) will be Feb. 28th.   We’re checking with the Paw Paw Middle School and Nancy Wheatley will also check with the Eagles and Lions.

New Business:  Jimmy gave us our MA shows dates for this year.  May 15th and July 10th.

Annual meeting was discussed, Melva Thayer will try and get the Animal Welfare Judging team to come (from MSU) and Janet will help with another speaker if needed.  The meeting is November 5th at the Lawrence center.  Everyone is to bring snacks.

Rusty moved to adjourn and Kenny seconded, motion carried.  Meeting adjourned at 8:54.

Respectfully submitted,

Melva Thayer, Secretary
