    Van Buren County Horse Council

Meeting Minutes
August 3, 2005

The August meeting of the VBC horse council was called to order by J. Tripp at 7:02 at the fairgrounds.  Present were M. DeVries, J Tripp, K.Tomsa, R. Tripp, V. Bury, T. Novotny, N. Wheatley, Janice Rajzer, R. DeVries, Hoyt, M. Thayer.

There were no minutes available from the last meeting. 

K. Tomsa gave the treasurer’s report.  See Attached.   A question was asked about the amount of $$’s we made on tee shirts.  Jen Chandler has that information.  J. Tripp moved to accept the treasurer’s report as presented.  M. DeVries seconded the motion.  Motion carried. 

J. Tripp moved to pay $72.52 to James and $2.82 to Rusty for hardware for the fair and hotels of $70.20 for Walton, Bogetta and Hayes.  N. Wheatley seconded the motion and the motion passed. 

M. Thayer discussed the judge’s evaluations.  All judges received a good or excellent rating.  T. Novotny questioned why one judge D.Q.ed so many exhibitors.  M. Thayer responded. 

A letter was read from the Jerch family regarding fair.  M. Thayer will send a thank you not to them.  J. Tripp will write a thank you note to Finnermans for the use of the tractor during fair week. 

Committees – It was noted that a speed show will be held at the fairgrounds.  .

Old Business – Fair week was discussed.  Topics were the water fight, poison ivy cutting a window in the end of the booth and hanging a clipboard outside for drops, and the volume of the fun show.  Pop machines were missed this year.  Could a club take it over and split the profits?    

J. Rajzer said we need forms for the income we made this year and turn them into her.  (food booths, tee shirts, tack sale.)

M. Godines brought in bills the horse council had incurred and she received.  V. Bury moved we pay $59.85 and $50.91 to Red arrow lumber.  M. Thayer seconded the motion.  The motion passed. 

New Business – The subject of selling banners to display on the fence came up.  T. Novotny said she would get prices.  Banners could be renewed yearly. 

Trophies need to be replaced.  It was discussed to have belt buckles as top trophy winner’s prizes.  Mrs. Hoyt will check on prices. 

It was discussed that we should try and get regionals for quiz bowl and attach our tack sale. 

V. Bury made a motion to adjourn at 8:20.  N. Wheatley seconded.  The meeting was adjourned.
