MSU Extension Travel Scholarships for Presentations at National and International Conferences

Purpose

The need for the MSU Extension Travel Scholarship for Presentations at National and International Conferences is based upon the premise that presentations are valuable professional experiences for the growth, development, and recognition of the professional and MSU Extension.

This fund is designed to help supplement the costs for professional MSUE staff traveling for the purpose of making presentations at any national and international conferences that pertains to their assignment with MSU Extension. Recipients will be chosen according to the relative value of the proposed presentation to the professional goals and purposes of both the individual and MSU Extension.

Eligibility

The following conditions are required for participation in the program. An applicant must:

  1. Be a professional member of the field or campus staff, and a member of a MCEA member association and/or Epsilon Sigma Phi.
  2. Have administrative approval granted prior to review by the committee thus assuring the relevant University and Extension policies have been met.

Criteria

  1. A presentation at a National or International Conference that is related to your career with MSU Extension.
  2. First consideration will be given to applicants who have not previously received grants from this fund.
  3. The proposed presentation will provide a significant opportunity for improved personal growth, performance and recognition.
  4. The proposed presentation will substantially contribute to the recognition of MSUE as an outstanding organization.

Administration/Policies/Procedures

Review Process

  1. The MSU Extension Travel Scholarship for Presentations at National and International Conferences Committee will be comprised of the MCEA Professional Improvement Joint Standing Committee, a representative of Epsilon Sigma Phi, and the staff member responsible for staff development. The committee chairperson is the MCEA Professional Improvement Fund Committee chairperson.
  2. The deadline for applications is February 1, June 1, and October 1. All funds must be expended by award recipients within the fiscal year awarded (July1 - June 30). Awards applied for on the June 1 deadline must be expended the following fiscal year..

Reporting Requirements

  1. Funds will be paid on a reimbursement only basis, and after the Professional Improvement activity has been completed.
  2. The size of each award will be at the discretion of the MSU Extension Travel Scholarship for Presentations at National and International Conferences Committee depending upon the availability of funds, the number of applicants and the quality of the presentations.
  3. Awards recipients must provide feedback regarding their presentation experience to the awards committee.
  4. Recipients are expected to work in MSUE for at least six months following completion of the experience for which the grant was made.
  5. The MSUE Travel Scholarship for Presentations at National and International Conferences Fund is an annual gift from the MSUE Director's office.  This fund shall be administered by the MSU Extension Director's office.

Reporting Specifics

  1. Full financial accounting.
  2. Include original receipts.
  3. A compiled evaluation from those that attended the presentation.
