Planning and Business Succession Educational Materials and Web Site
From: Roger Betz
As you probably know, MI Extension no longer has Ag Econ Dept specialist in
Estate Planning and Business Succession. In order to have current materials
available and applicable for us to use with Michigan citizens, over the past
summer, I reviewed hundreds of Estate Planning and Business Succession Extension
Publications from across the US. I have selected over 40 specific publications
or links that I feel fit Michigan.
Many of the basic and some of the specific publications were written by Marsha
Goetting, Extension Family Economics Specialist and Professor from Montana.
I like her content and readability style. All of the publications are in PDF
format and most of them are applicable for Ag or Non-Ag situations. Information
(PDF files, and some links) all come from Extension sources or the Michigan
State Bar.
In addition, there is a link to download or view my Power Point presentations
on Business Succession and Estate Planning. There are several topics all included
in one large presentation (over 175 slides). This is what we use for our 3 day
workshop. Parts of this can be used for shorter programs. Each of you as well
as all of your clients has estate planning issues. I think you can find basic
to advanced information useful both to yourself and your clients. You are welcome
to make reference or include the web site in newsletters and communications.
I think the publications in the “Beginning” section provide good general information
for most questions and to get people started. You are welcome to download specific
files or if you would like the entire set I can send you a CD or email a zip
file.
Please share this with office staff that handle incoming phone calls and walk-ins.
Consider it a Michigan resource. Below is the list of publications and links
as presented in the web site: http://www.msu.edu/user/betz/estateplanning/index.htm
This site is under Estate Planning and Business Succession under my web site which is listed below in my signature. It is also available through the Calhoun Portal Page under Farm Management.
