Acorus calamus--Sweet flag
Hardiness Zones: 5 to 9
Height: 3 ft Spread: 3 ft Form: upright
Type: herbaceous perennial
Comments: Sweet Flag is a good choice for wet areas. The
flowers are yellowish-green and not particularly ornamental.
The crushed leaves and rhizomes give off an aroma that
resembles cinnamon. In addition to a moist soil, the plant
requires exposure to sun or partial shade. Sweet flag
spreads by means of rhizomes.
Cultivars:
'Variegatus' - The plant (Vis. 1) forms clumps of leaves
that are marked with white (Vis. 2).
