disease problems. The flowers are produced in

Fruit: red, size not listed
Diseases: Listed as susceptible to scab by Guthery
and Hasselkus.
Comments: A compact, pyramidal form.

Comments: Not recommended in Michigan because of
disease problems. The red flowers are displayed on

Diseases: In MSU research trials moderate
defoliation from scab was observed.
Comments: The cultivar bears no fruit and so is an
excellent choice for planting near patios or other
places where fruit litter is objectionable.

'Strawberry Parfait'

Fruit: yellow and red, 1/2 in
Diseases: In MSU research trials no defoliation from
scab was observed.
Comments: A hybrid of M. hupehensis and M.
atrosanguinea with an irregular habit. The young
foliage is reddish purple. The flowers are mottled
pink tints.

'Sutyzam' (Sugar Tyme TM)

Diseases: In MSU research trials no defoliation and
few foliar symptoms from scab were observed.

Comments: The cultivar has deep purple leaves on an
upright spreading tree.

Comments: Not recommended in Michigan because of
disease problems, especially fire blight. The
foliage is silvery in spring; in fall, it is shades

Comments: Not recommended in Michigan because of
disease problems. The flowers may be produced
heavily only every other year. The fruits are

Fruit: red, 1/2 in
Comments: Not recommended in Michigan because of
disease problems. The upright form is combined with
purple leaves. Few fruits are produced and the
plant can be used in hedges.

Comments: Listed as blooming heavily.

Fruit: yellow, 3/8 in
Diseases: In MSU research trials no defoliation from
scab was observed.
Comments: A useful tree where a weeping form is
desired. Outstanding floral display in the spring.

'Winter Gold'
Height: 25 ft Spread: 25 ft Form: rounded
Flowers: (buds/open) red/white Type: single
Fruit: yellow, 1/2 in
Comments: Not recommended in Michigan because of
disease problems, especially fire blight. The
yellow fruits persist and are an outstanding
ornamental trait but may be abundant only in
alternate years.

'Zumarang'

Fruit: Red
Comments: The large green leaves cover a dense canopy.

zumi 'Calocarpa'

Comments: This cultivar is somewhat more rounded and
larger flowers than 'Calocarpa'.
