Comments: These very hardy plants (Vis. 2) form a low
cluster of long pointed leaves. During the growing season,
a long stalk will grow up to 6 feet tall and produce large
numbers of white bell-shaped flowers (Vis. 3). Once
established it may be difficult to remove from the
landscape. The plant may be useful for dry sites. Provide
a sunny location with a well-drained soil.
Cultivars:
'Blue Sword' - A cultivar with blue-green foliage.
'Bright Edge' - The leaves (Vis. 1) are edged with
yellow.
'Color Guard' - White and cream leaves are edged with
green.
'Garland Gold' - A Y. filifera cultivar. The leaves have
a gold stripe down the middle.
'Golden Sword' - Leaves have a yellow center. Y. filifera
cultivar.
'Ivory Tower' - Spikes of ivory white flowers five to
six feet tall.
