Comments: Veronicas grow from 2 inches to 36 inches tall.
They grow in full sun or light shade and in any good
garden soil. The plant is susceptible to drought and some
types of veronica are serious lawn weeds. Some are good
as ground covers.
Propagation: Division may be done in autumn or spring.
Seeds germinate in 15 to 20 days at 70 degrees. Softwood
cuttings may be taken in spring. Seed can be planted
outdoors within 2 months of frost.
Cultivars: The following list contains species and
hybrids.
alpina 'Alba' - Plants one-foot tall produce white
flowers.
'Blue Bouquet' - Medium blue flowers.
'Blue Charm' - Soft blue spikes of flowers on 36-inch
tall plants.
'Blue Giant' - Plants 3 feet tall produce deep,
lavender-blue flowers.
'Crater Lake Blue' - Fifteen-inch plants produce blue
flowers (Vis. 1).
gentianoides - Plants 6 inches tall have shiny green
leaves and produce light blue flowers in spring.
'Giles van Hees' - Plants 6 inches tall produce bright
pink flowers.
'Goodness Grows' - Plants 1-foot tall produce violet-
blue flowers throughout the growing season, suitable
as a ground cover.
'Icicle' - White flowers are produced in summer on
plants 20 inches tall.
incana (Woolly Speedwell) - The plant forms a mat of
silvery leaves and produces spikes (Vis. 4) of purple
flowers.
liwanensis (Turkish Speedwell) - These low plants
produce large numbers of cobalt blue flowers.
'Minuet' - Pink flowers on plant 15 inches tall.
'Noah Williams' - The foliage is variegated with white,
white flowers (Vis. 2).
peduncularis 'Georgia Blue' - An evergreen plant with
blue flowers (Vis. 5), foliage turns bronze in fall,
Zone 6 to 9.
prostrata 'Heavenly Blue' - Intense blue flowers,
evergreen foliage on plants 4 inches tall.
repens - An evergreen plant only 3 inches tall that
bears pale blue flowers.
'Rosea' - Pink flowers.
'Royal Blue' - Fifteen-inch plants produce blue
flowers. V. teucrium cultivar.
'Snow Giant' - Pure white flowers are produced by
plants 2 feet tall.
spicata 'Blue Charm' - Mounded plants produce lavender-
blue flowers, plants 24 inches tall.
spicata 'Red Fox' - Red flowers are produced throughout
the summer on 15-inch tall plants.
subsessilis 'Blue Pyramid' - Bright blue flowers are
produced throughout the summer on plants that are 18
inches tall.
'Sunny Border Blue' - Violet-blue flowers are produced
all through the summer (Vis. 3).
'Trehane' - Plants 3 inches tall have yellow leaves and
produce sky blue flowers.
'Waterperry Blue' - Plants 5 inches tall will be 15
inches wide and produce blue flowers (Vis. 6) in early
summer.
