Comments: Anglojap yew cultivars are some of the most
common shrubs in home landscapes. The heights and spreads
vary with the cultivar grown. Only the females have
ornamental red fruits (Vis. 7). The plant can be grown in
sun or shade but it is usually less dense in shade.
Cultivars: Sizes given assume that plants will receive
regular pruning or shearing.
'Amherst' - A rounded form reaching a height and spread
of about 5 feet.
'Andersonii' - Spreading plants are 5 feet tall but up to
8 feet wide.
'Anthony Wayne' - A wide, columnar form with light
green new foliage.
'Berryhill' - A mounded, slow-growing plant that
reaches a height of 5 feet and a spread of 9 feet.
'Brownii' - A globe-shaped form 4 feet tall and 6 feet
wide.
'Chadwickii' - A slow-growing dwarf form that will be 4
feet tall and 5 feet wide.
'Citation' - An upright cultivar with dark green foliage,
plants about 9 feet tall will spread 5 feet.
'Dark Green Pyramidalis' - A large, pyramidal plant
reaching a height of 15 feet and a spread of 8 feet.
'Dark Green Spreader' - Dark green foliage on a plant 4
feet tall and 6 feet wide.
'Densiformis' - A spreading form reaching a height of 5
feet and spread of 8 feet (Vis. 1).
'Ershzam' (Erie Shores, TM) - A spreading plant 2 feet
tall and 5 feet wide.
'Everlow' - A low, spreading plant, only 2 feet tall
and 5 feet wide.
'Fairview' - A mounded plant 5 feet tall and 10 feet
wide.
'Flemer' - A spreader that reaches a height of 4 feet
and spread of 5 feet.
'Gem' - A mounded plant 5 feet tall and 10 feet wide.
'Gold Brim' - A globe-shaped plant with yellow new
growth that changes to green.
'Green Wave' - A low mound (Vis. 2) with dark green
foliage.
'Hatfieldii' - A broad, upright plant that can be 12
feet tall and 10 feet wide (Vis. 3).
'Henryi' - A spreading plant 4 feet tall and 8 feet
wide.
'Hicksii' - An upright form reaching a height of 6 feet
and spread of 5 feet (Vis. 4).
'Hillii' - Compact and broadly columnar, dark green
foliage.
'Hiti' - An upright form about 6 feet tall and slightly
less in width.
'Johnnycake' - A columnar form reaching a height of 12
feet and a width of 5 feet.
'Kobelli' - Mounded plants will reach a height and width
of about 5 feet.
'L. C. Bobbink' - An upright plant reaching a height of
8 feet and width of 6 feet.
'Minaret' - A vertical form that grows at about half
the rate of other yews.
'Moon' - A compact, upright growing plant with dark
green foliage.
'New Dense' - Compact and uniform version of
'Densiformis'.
'Nigra' - A compact form with dark green needles. A
broad-spreading shape reaching a height and spread of
5 feet.
'Runyan' - A rounded plant reaching a height of 8 feet
and a spread of 12 feet (Vis. 5).
'Sebian' - A spreading form that is very winter hardy.
Reaches a height of 4 feet and spread of 5 feet.
'Slavin' - A spreader with a height and width of 4
feet.
'Stoveken' - Columnar plants will reach a height of about
12 feet but spread about 6 feet.
'Tautonii' - A spreader that holds its green color
through the winter. Usually 4 feet tall and 8 feet
wide.
'Viridis' - A narrow plant with light green foliage
that darkens as it ages.
'Wardii' - Speading form reaching a height of 4 feet
and a spread of 8 feet (Vis. 6).
'Yoeii' (Superdensi TM) - A plant 4 feet tall and 8
feet wide that was selected for its fast growth and
feathery foliage.
