Comments: This hardy plant produces flat clusters of
flowers (Vis. 3) in the summer. It will tolerate dryness
and the foliage (Vis. 2) becomes bronzed in the fall.
Provide a sunny growing area and a well-drained soil.
Propagation: Cuttings or division.
Cultivars:
subsp. ellacombianum - Lemon-yellow flowers on plants 8
inches tall.
subsp. middendorffianum - Bright yellow flowers are
combined with dark green, needle-like leaves.
'Variegatum' - Pale green leaves are tinged with white
and pink (Vis. 1), the flowers are orange-yellow.
'Weihenstephaner Gold' - Foliage holds up better in the
landscape.
