Salvia x sylvestris--Hybrid Sage

Flowers: Blue, purple

Comments: These hybrids should be grown in full sun and a
well-drained soil. The flower spikes are produced during
the summer and some cultivars may require support. The
flowers may be used in fresh or dried arrangements. The
plant will tolerate some heat and drought but will not
survive wet soil in winter. In northern areas provide
winter protection.

Propagation: Division done in the spring.

Cultivars: Most of these hybrids are S. x sylvestris, a
cross between S. pratensis and S. nemorosa.
'Blue Hill' - Plants 18 inches tall produce deep purple
flowers (Vis. 1).
'Blue Queen' - Plants 30 inches tall produce purple
flowers.
'East Friesland' - Violet-purple (Vis. 5) flowers are
produced by plants (Vis. 6) 18 inches tall.
'Lubeca' - Two-foot tall plants produced violet-blue
flowers (Vis. 4).
'May Night' ('Mainacht') - Deep purple flowers are
produced (Vis. 3) by plants that are 18 inches tall
(Vis. 2).
'Plumosa' - The reddish-purple flowers are plume-like.
'Rose Queen' - Rose pink flower on plants 24 inches
tall.
'Rose Wine' - Rose pink flowers on plants 18 inches
tall.
'Snow Hill' ('Schneehugel') - White flowers on plants 20
inches tall.
