Comments: Yoshino Cherry is a short-lived tree with
horizontal branching (Vis. 3). The white to pale pink
flowers (Vis. 4) occur in early spring before the leaves
develop. This tree is best known for its use around the
Tidal Basin in Washington D.C.
Cultivars:
'Afterglow' - The pink flowers (Vis. 1) do not fade to
white.
'Akebono' - Flowers slightly more pink (Vis. 2) than the
species.
'Pendula' - A weeping form with white flowers.
'Shidare Yoshino' - A small, weeping tree reaching a
height and spread of about 8 feet.
