Flowers: Blue, pink, purple, red, white
Comments: These plants prefer a warm sunny position but
can take slight shade. A number of species and cultivars
are suitable for garden culture. They produce spikes of
tubular flowers in a variety of bright colors. The plant
grows in any fertile, well-drained soil, but dislikes
clay. Flowering is best in cool weather.
Propagation: Propagation is by seed or cuttings. Take
softwood cuttings from non-flowering side shoots. The seed
germinates in two to three weeks at temperatures between
65 and 75 degrees. Seedling growth will be slow and
uneven.
