Pennisetum alopecuroides--Fountain Grass

Type: herbaceous perennial
Flowers: White

Comments: As its name implies, the arching leaves resemble
a fountain (Vis. 1). Provide a well-drained soil and
exposure to sun. The plant will spread rapidly. In cooler
climates, the leaves will turn yellow in the fall. The
flowers are copper-colored and effective in summer.

Propagation: Propagate by division.

Cultivars:
'Burgundy Giant' - These 5-foot plants have burgundy
leaves. This cultivar is not hardy in the north and
should be treated as an annual.
'Cassian' - Good fall color.
'Hameln' - A more compact plant (Vis. 2) only 24 inches
tall.
'Little Bunny' - A dwarf only 11 inches tall (Vis. 3).
'Moudry' - The seedheads are black, the foliage is dark
green.
