Kochia scoparia--Summer Cypress
Height: 36 in Spacing: 18 in
Type: annual
Comments: Kochia foliage changes color late in the growing
season. During summer the plant is a fine-textured, green
presence but in late summer it changes to crimson. Any
check in growth causes premature coloring. Provide a
sunny exposure and do not allow the soil to get too dry.
Self-seeded volunteer plants may be a problem, especially
where winters are warm.
Propagation: Propagation is by seed that germinates in 2
to 3 weeks. Young seedlings may be grown in peat pots to
avoid excessive root injury or the seed can be sown
directly into the garden.
