Juniperus horizontalis--Creeping Juniper

Height: 2 ft Spread: 8 ft Form: spreading
Type: narrow-leaved evergreen shrub
Annual Growth Rate: 12 to 18 inches

Comments: Creeping Juniper has many excellent low-growing
cultivars. It tolerates exposed sites and a wide range of
soils. Some of the cultivars have bluish foliage. The
low cultivars (Vis. 8) are used as a ground cover. As they
mature, the plants will become somewhat mounded in the
center.

Cultivars:
'Bar Harbor' - Prostrate, wide-spreading cultivar with
bluish-green foliage (Vis. 1). The plant turns
purplish during the winter.
'Blue Chip' - Bluish foliage all year on a prostrate
growth habit (Vis. 2).
'BowDak' (Prairie Elegance TM) - Introduced at North
Dakota State University. A prostrate growth habit
and bright green color (Vis. 3).
'Glomerata' - A low-growing cultivar with purplish
foliage in winter.
'Hughes' - A 1-foot tall plant with silvery-blue
foliage turning slightly purplish in winter (Vis. 4).
'Marcellus' - A procumbent plant with bluish-gray
foliage, winter foliage color is purple.
'Monber' (Icee Blue TM) - The bluish foliage become
purplish at the tips of mature growth. The 4-inch
tall plant will spread 8 feet.
'Mother Lode' - A bright, golden-yellow (Vis. 5) sport of
'Wiltoni' that holds its color all summer (Vis. 6).
'Plumosa Compacta' (Andorra Juniper) - An 18-inch tall
plant with light green summer foliage and purplish
foliage in the winter.
'Plumosa Compacta Youngstown' - This cultivar of
Andorra juniper will be about 18 inches tall and will
spread 6 feet. The foliage is green.
'Prince of Wales' - A very low growing form with bright
green foliage.
'Monise' (Turquoise Spreader TM) - A 1-foot tall plant
with turquoise-green foliage and a prostrate growth
habit.
'Two Medicine' - A flat, carpet-like plant with bluish
foliage.
'Variegata' - White markings on the foliage, prostrate
growth habit.
'Webberi' - A low, mat-like plant with bluish foliage
and a 6-inch height.
'Wiltonii' (Blue Rug TM) - A very prostrate growth habit
with bluish foliage (Vis. 7).
'Yukon Belle' - A low grower with bright silver-blue
foliage. Selected for its hardiness and color.
