Ornamental Plants plus Version 3.0 - 00000775
11/12/99
Ipomoea spp.--Morning Glory
Height: 10 ft Spacing: 12 in
Type: annual
Flowers: Blue, pink, purple, red, white
Comments: Morning Glory is a fast-growing, climbing vine
useful as a screening plant. Several species are sold
under the more generic common name. Each (Vis. 1) flowers
will last only one day but are produced in abundance. The
plant grows in sandy soil and is somewhat tolerant of
dryness. Larger plants benefit from fertilization although
too much fertilizer early in the season reduces blooming.
The plants will need some sort of support to climb on.
Propagation: The seeds may be planted directly into the
garden after the danger of frost has passed. Soak the
seeds in warm water for 24 hours before planting to
enhance germination.
