Hymenocalis narcissiflora (Ismene calathina)--Spider Lily

Type: tender bulb
Flowers: White, yellow
Comments: Spider Lily is not hardy and must be dug up each
fall. It produces fragrant white flowers (Vis. 1) and grows
best in sheltered spots exposed to sun. Amend the soil with
organic matter. After blooming keep the plant watered and
fertilized. Spider Lily may be used as a pot plant.
Plant the bulb 4 inches deep. After the bulbs are dug in
autumn, they are hung upside down until the foliage dies.
Do not remove the fleshy roots. Store the bulbs in boxes
of moist sphagnum or vermiculite at a temperature of 60
degrees.
Propagation: Propagate by removing the offsets that form
on mature bulbs.
