Hamamelis virginiana--Common Witchhazel
Hardiness Zones: 3 to 8
Height: 18 ft Spread: 15 ft Form: rounded
Type: deciduous shrub
Annual Growth Rate: 12 to 18 inches
Flowers: Yellow
Comments: Common Witchhazel grows best in sun or partial
shade and in light, moist soil. The plant tolerates
dryness and grows slowly. The fragrant flowers (Vis. 2) are
produced in late fall to early winter and have strap-like,
yellow petals. This is the last shrub to flower during
the year, however, the flowers are more interesting than
ornamental. The fall color is yellow (Vis. 1). The plant
suckers freely and tolerates urban environments.
