Eschscholzia californica--California Poppy

Height: 12 in Spread: 6 in
Type: annual
Flowers: Orange, pink, red, white, yellow (Vis. 1).

Comments: California Poppy grows well in gardens with dry
soil and lots of sun. The plant is a perennial grown as
an annual. The flowers remain closed during wet or cloudy
weather. Seedlings are somewhat difficult to transplant
and self-seeded volunteers may be off types of inferior
quality. Remove dead blooms to prolong and enhance
blooming.

Propagation: Direct seeding into the garden is preferred.
The seed germinates in 10 to 12 days at 55 to 60 degrees.
Plant the seed one-fourth inch deep. The plant is hard to
transplant due to its tap root.
