Comments: This low, spreading plant transplants easily and
the spreading stems root where they touch the ground. The
evergreen foliage will become purplish in the winter as
the weather turns colder. The red fruit persist into the
following spring and are preceded by small white flowers
borne in the spring. This is an excellent ground cover
plant.
Cultivars:
'Coral Beauty' - A prostrate plant that develops
upright shoots in the center. These can dieback
during the winter. Orange berries appear in the fall
and persist through winter. The foliage (Vis. 1) turns
maroon in winter.
'Eichholz' - White flowers in the spring are followed
by red fruit. The fall color is gold to orange-red.
'Lowfast' - A vigorous, mat forming shrub with dark
green foliage and dark red fruit.
'Moner' (Canadian Creeper TM) - This cultivar will only
be 6 inches tall. The white flowers are followed by
red fruits.
'Moon Creeper' - The dark green foliage contrasts with
the large white flowers (Vis. 2).
'Royal Beauty' - Coral colored fruit are produced on a
plant 18 inches tall but spreading to 6 feet.
'Skogsholmen' - A vigorous grower with glossy red
fruit.
'Streib's Findling' - A low-growing cultivar, only 6
inches tall.
