Chamaecyparis thyoides--Whitecedar Falsecypress

Type: narrow-leaved evergreen tree
Annual Growth Rate: less than 12 inches

Comments: Whitecedar Falsecypress is found in coastal
swamps in the eastern United States. Young plants are
tall and narrow but lose their lower branches as they age.
Older foliage does not immediately fall and may remain on
the tree for a number of years.

Cultivars:
'Andelyensis' - A broadly pyramidal dwarf that will
reach a height of 10 feet.
'Andelyensis Meth Dwarf' - A conical plant with bluish-
green foliage.
'Ericoides' - A pyramidal, compact plant. The grayish
foliage becomes purplish in the winter.
'Glauca Nana' - A dwarf with bluish foliage (Vis. 1).
'Heather Bun' - Dwarf cultivar reaching a height of 10
feet and a width of 5 feet. The young foliage has a
purplish coloration that becomes more intense in
winter.
'Hopkinton' - The foliage is bluish on a plant that
will reach a height of 40 feet. Listed by Weston
Nurseries as being adaptable to wet or dry soils and
sun or shade.
'Little Jamie' - A slow-growing plant that forms a mound.
The foliage (Vis. 2) turns purplish in the winter.
'Pendula' - Drooping branches.
'Red Star' - An upright plant with gray-green foliage
that turns purple in the winter.
'Top Point' - A pyramidal plant with bluish foliage.
'Variegata' ('Aureovariegata') - Yellow foliage
variegation.
