Caladium x hortulanum (Outdoors)

Height: 20 in Spacing: 10 in
Type: tender bulb

Comments: Caladiums have brightly colored (Vis. 1) leaves
and grow best in rich, moist soil and shade. The plants
need ample moisture during the growing season. The leaves
are usually green combined with pink, white or red.

Cover the tubers with peat moss and start them indoors
during February or March. When roots form, remove the
tubers from the flat and pot them separately. Keep them
warm and shaded after potting. Plant the plants in the
garden when the weather is warmed and settled. Dig tubers
when the foliage fades, but before frost. Store tubers in
a moderately warm area with a dry covering.

Propagation: Tubers may be divided when they start growth
in spring. The divisions can be rooted in peat moss and
potted up separately once well rooted.
