Comments: A suckering, thicket-forming shrub that adapts
to wet or dry sites. The glossy foliage turns red in the
fall and is displayed with the (Vis. 2) purplish-black
fruit. The plant can be used in naturalistic plantings in
sun or shade.
Cultivars:
'Autumn Magic' - Bright red fall foliage color.
var. elata - A compact rounded shrub with white
flowers. The black fruits (Vis. 3) persist well into
winter.
'Morton' (Iroquois Beauty TM) - A dwarf about 3 feet
tall.
'Viking' - A 4 to 6 foot shrub with glossy deep green
foliage that turns red in the fall. The plant also
produces large black fruits.
