Hardiness Zones: 4 to 9
Height: 25 ft Spread: 15 ft Form: rounded
Type: small deciduous tree
Annual Growth Rate: 12 to 18 inches
Flowers: White
Fruit: Red turning dark purple to black

Comments: Apple Serviceberry is a hybrid between A.
arborea and A. laevis. The main ornamental feature is the
flowers (Vis. 7) that are larger than those of other
Amelanchier. The flowers are borne in early May and are at
first tinged with pink but later fade to white. The young
leaves are purplish and the fall color (Vis. 6) is yellow to
orange.

Cultivars:
'Autumn Brilliance' - An Amelanchier with good form and
reliable displays of white flowers (Vis. 1) and bright
red fall color. Reported as resistant to ice breakage.
'Cole's Select' - A selection with thicker, glossier
foliage than other selections. The fall color is
bright orange-red (Vis. 2).
'Forest Prince' - Plants usually to 25 feet tall and
12 feet wide.
'Majestic' - The dark green foliage turns brilliant red
in the fall. The clusters of white flowers are
large.
'Princess Diana' - A spreading, small tree with red
fall color (Vis. 3) that develops early and lasts late
into the season.
'Robin Hill Pink' - A selection with pink flowers. The
flower color is best in cool weather but fades
rapidly when the weather is hot and dry.
'Strata' - A selection made by Dr. Ed Hasselkus of the
University of Wisconsin. The horizontal branching
habit gives the tree a stratified appearance. The
white flowers are tinged with pink (Vis. 5).
