Comments: The botanical and common names refer to the
resemblance of the leaves (Vis. 2) to those of trees in the
genus carpinus. Hornbeam maple (Vis. 1) is vase shaped and
usually forms many stems. The tree prefers some shade and
has smooth gray bark.
