White Grub Complex (Phyllophaga spp., Cyclocephala spp. And Popillia japonica)
List of files and visuals associated with this text.
White grubs are up to 1-1/4 inches in length with a
creamy white body (Vis. 1) and reddish-brown legs and
head. These grubs are the larvae of scarab beetles,
including May beetles, Japanese beetles, masked chafers
and others. Typically, they are found curled into a C-
shape. Damage is due to feeding on seedling roots, with
extensive feeding causing wilting and seedling death.
Severe damage may occur where soybeans follow sod, cover
crops or weeds. Damage can be more severe when emergence
and growth is delayed by cool, wet soil. They are found
throughout the Midwest and South.
