Ornamental Plants plus Version 2.0 - 00000393
01/01/98
Height: 18 in Spacing: 6 in Type: hardy bulb Flowers: Pink
Comments: Autumn Crocus produces leaves in the spring and flowers in the fall. The plants prefer semi-shade but take full sun if well watered. Plant the bulbs 2 inches deep in moist soil containing lots of organic matter. Unless the plants show signs of overcrowding leave them alone. A bulb, set in a sunny window, blooms without soil or water. Once a bulb is forced in this manner it must be planted. The leaves sprawl out and take up much room in the spring. The height given is for the foliage, the flower will be only about 8 inches tall.
Propagation: The bulbs are divided when the foliage matures and are replanted immediately.
Cultivars: 'Album' - White flowers. 'The Giant' - Larger, pink flowers. 'Waterlily' - Double pink flowers.
