The Latin American Trade Council of Oregon is a non-profit association organized to promote trade between Oregon and Latin America. Latin America includes Mexico, the Caribbean, Central and South America and Iberia (Spain and Portugal).
LATCO members usually have personal as well as commercial or professional interests in Latin America. Members include Latinos as well as people who have lived and worked in Latin America. They are stretched from Vancouver to Medford. There may soon be a LATCO chapter in the Willamette Valley.
LATCO provides several means by which its members can exchange information. These include conferences, workshops, a newsletter, an Internet Email list, on-line forums and a member directory. The group also makes available reports on specific trade opportunities in the various Latin American countries.
LATCO hosts or cosponsors monthly meetings, conferences or round table discussions that focus on trade with Latin America. Since we began in February 1992 topics have included: Chile, manufacturing operations in Mexico, the North American Free Trade Agreement, wastewater treatment in Mexico, the " Southern Cone" (Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Paraguay), Colombia, Mexico: transportation issues, and the emerging market for computers and electronics in Brazil; financial issues: money, tariffs and taxes; travel/transportation; communications; legal issues; and library resources. In cooperation with local Internet servers and BBS's LATCO has created forums to exchange messages and files.
