There are several national home-based/small business organizations. While none have chapters in Michigan, it would give home-based business entrepreneurs a chance to do some national networking. The one Michigan association is:
Small Business Association of Michigan
This association advocates for small business legislative issues, has group health and life insurance and discounts on business services such as long-distance phone service, payroll services, cellular phones and a legal plan. SBAM also has education programs, and publications. Any business with less than 250 employees can join. Annual cost is $150.

National Organizations
The American Association of Home-Based Business National non-profit with three objectives: 1. to offer networking and support system for homebased businesses, 2. to monitor regulatory bodies and their laws and regulations, and 3. to educate policy makers to the economic importance of homebased businesses.
Members receive a newsletter, access to the association's fax, and on-line information services.

The Home Office and Business Opportunities Association (HOBO)
California organization founded by Debra Schacher has as its mission to strengthen the home-based business industry and foster economic growth and development.
The organization has a newsletter.

Association for Enterprise Opportunity (AEO).
The AEO is a national non-profit organization created to provide its membership with a forum and voice to promote enterprise opportunity for people and communities with limited access to economic resources. Objectives are: * encourage and enable peer exchange networking, * promote increased financial support and understanding, * advocate for policy change, * compile and provide information on the field, * cooperate and collaborate with existing organizations, * enhance the work of its members.
The association provides a directory of members, a newsletter, electronic networking and an annual meeting.

National Association for the Self-Employed
This association advertises that its most important benefit is health insurance. They offer members group insurance for accident or serious illness (hospital insurance).
Other benefits include advocacy in Washington, ShopTalk 800 (a toll-free business consultant service. discounts on long-distance charges, discounted moving services and savings on air fares, rental cars, hotels and motels.

The American Business Women's Association (ABWA)
More than half of this organizations's 9300 members are home based. They were started 45 years ago to held working women improve their business skills. A recent survey revealed that 68 percent have a full time business, 50 percent have been in business more than 5 years, 52 percent report annual sales under $50,000, and 57 percent have no employees. most are in service businesses.

Professional Association of Custom Clothiers
A nonprofit professional organization created to meet the special needs of custom clothiers in home-based and commercial settings. There is a quarterly newsletter, PACC News. National dues are $25.
