Mailing Directions from the Post Office

If you are doing large mailings, the postal service would
like you to use the following style in sending mail. If
you are planning to computerize your customer database,
keep this in mind before starting.

The preferred rules are:
1. Address should be in ALL CAPS.
2. Keep the address together. Do not put notations at the
    lower left-corner of the envelope.
3. State should be the standard two letter abbreviation.
4. Abbreviate where you can and avoid punctuation. AVE or
ST are preferable to Avenue or Street.
5. Use the ZIP+4 if possible.
6. Always include your return address in the upper
     left-hand corner of the envelope.

A sample address would be:
JANE JONES
PO BOX 20137
EAST LANSING MI 48824-1095
