This project has been completed.
Abstract: The goal of this project was to improve understanding of the changes in marketing institutions for reduced- pesticide horticultural products in Oklahoma, Texas and Arkansas. The four booklets represent the major focus areas of the project. The regional analysis booklet provides information about a comprehensive survey of retail grocers that obtained information on marketing produce, purchasing trends, and food safety concerns. The national perspective booklet focuses on the role of the grocer and understanding pesticide issues related to grocery sale of produce. A workshop was held (outlined in the Regional Workshop booklet) that targeted producers, processors, grocers and university personnel and included information on consumer perceptions of food safety issues, communication, changing markets, grower and grocer perspectives, marketing issues, and government/regulatory issues. The annotated bibliography contains 617 entries published between 1989-93. Various topics are covered which related to the economics of food safety, from consumer concerns to government regulations. The entries are listed by author only.
