Taking a Risk on Food
Abstract:
This 79 page report provides information on the major
components of a multi-state project planned to facilitate
food safety programming: 1.) develop the Extension Food
Safety Education Database and 2.) conduct two national
workshops. The database was designed to include
information on educational curriculum and resource
materials that can be used in formal and nonformal
settings by extension educators, volunteers, teachers,
and other educators. Materials in the database address a
wide range of food safety education topics. The database
includes short video clips for previewing, and is
accessible on the World Wide Web. The national workshops
focused on building food safety program teams within the
extension network. Workshop content included the national
food safety strategic plan, utilization of technology to
locate support materials for food safety education, and
team strategies in program planning. The Appendices
provide comprehensive information on the contents of the
database as well as access and tips for using it, a
partial list of USDA and Cooperative Extension WWW sites,
agendas for the national workshops, summaries of Food
Safety Education Ideas that Work, workshop Resource
Notebook Table of Contents, program planning worksheets,
program plans, and evaluation instruments and results.
