Microbeman, The Continuing Adventures: Volume 1-4 Abstract: The four entertaining videotapes ranging in length from 15-19 minutes were developed for training new and potential food service employees in basic safe food handling practices. They are intended for low-literacy audiences, to be used individually or in groups of newly- hired food service employees, teens and young adults planning to work in commercial food service, daycare providers, and occasional food handlers in camps, churches and/or civic organizations. The situations parody super-hero adventures, complete with a flying þheroþ, and utilize professional actors. A review question is given at the end of each video, suggesting the viewers pause the tape and discuss the question. Volume 1, The Case of the Perfect Pig, focuses on personal hygiene-sources of microorganisms and how to prevent their spread. Volume 2, The Case of Wally's Salad focuses on cross contamination and ways to prevent this. Volume 3, The Case of La Grande Burger, targets proper heating and holding of foods. Volume 4, The Case of Conrad the Egghead, looks at proper cooling and storage. The Danger Zone is emphasized. There is no cultural diversity reflected in the videos.
