A Model Program to Reduce Foodborne Illnesses for Compromised Individuals Abstract: This 37-page report plus appendices describes the development, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs designed for high risk audiences: persons with AIDS, cancer and parents of WIC infants. The report provides educators who work with high-risk audiences an introduction, objectives, materials, program information, results, and conclusions for each high-risk group. Materials used in this project were those developed by the US Department of Health and Human Services, Center for Disease Control, Food and Drug Administration, University of Florida, and United States Department of Agriculture; some materials were translated to Spanish and Creole. Results indicate that target audience-specific food safety educational materials were effective in increasing recognition of specific health conditions as well as knowledge and behavior for safe food handling practices.
