ABSTRACT: Investigated the effects of racial attitudes on
40 male undergraduates' willingness to shock a black or
white "victim." 2 wks after the laboratory experiment, Ss
were approached by a different E and asked to complete the
Steckler Anti-Negro Survey. Results show that attitudes
toward blacks were not related to the level of shock
administered to black victims. A black victim was shocked
less than a white victim. Results are interpreted in terms
of the social pressures of a university community as
influenced, for example, by affirmative action and equal
opportunity programs. (PsycLIT Database Copyright 1975
