TITLE: Tokenism or reality: Recommendations for the
education of mental health workers against continued racist
practices.

YEAR PUBLISHED: 1977
JOURNAL: Journal-of-Contemporary-Psychotherapy; 1977 Sum
Vol 9(1) 32-36

ABSTRACT: Presents a model for the education of White
mental health workers on the prevalence and effects of
White racism on the therapist-client relationship. Such a
model should include (a) a commitment to the need for
change in the institutions themselves through an
Affirmative Action policy or a comparable program; (b)
vigorous efforts to include minority workers at
policy-making levels; (c) interracial workshops, seminars,
or T-groups for those voluntarily interested in
self-examination of ideals learned while growing up in a
White-dominated society; and (d) compulsory classes at
designated centers of training or experience in education
against racism. (PsycLIT Database Copyright 1978 American
