TITLE: Interviewing the disabled job applicant.

YEAR PUBLISHED: 1982
JOURNAL: Personnel-Journal; 1982 Mar Vol 61(3) 205-209

ABSTRACT: Points out several reasons why able-bodied people
have negative reactions toward the handicapped. Because
mandated Affirmative Action programs are bringing more and
more disabled applicants to employment interviews,
interviewers must learn to overcome their negative
feelings. General suggestions for interviewing the
handicapped are offered, and specific methods are mentioned
for dealing with deaf, blind, speech-impaired, and
mobility-impaired applicants. Problems involved in
"reasonable accommodation"- adjusting to requirements and
working conditions to the disability--are discussed, and
questions to be asked of the referring rehabilitative
agency are listed. (8 ref) (PsycLIT Database Copyright 1982
