TITLE: Discrimination in industrial employment: An
investigation of race and sex bias among professionals.
YEAR PUBLISHED: 1982
JOURNAL: Work-and-Occupations; 1982 May Vol 9(2) 217-231
ABSTRACT: Job applicant resumes were sent to personnel
directors of 200 US corporations, with the applicant
identified as Black and/or female or with race and/or sex
left unspecified. Identification of race generated more
replies but fewer number of positive responses than when
race was not identified. No sex effect was found, but the
pattern of responses suggests the possibility of sex
reverse discrimination. Results suggest the need for more
creative approaches to affirmative action programs. (24
