TITLE: Selection procedure and responses to affirmative
action: The case of favorable treatment.
YEAR PUBLISHED: 1985
JOURNAL: Law-and-Human-Behavior; 1985 Sep Vol 9(3) 225-242
ABSTRACT: Investigated the responses of 96 female
undergraduates who were asked to imagine themselves as
characters who were favorably treated in an affirmative
action-like scenario, due to either their actual
qualifications or to selection procedures based on race and
sex. Ss who imagined themselves as the character with
superior qualifications judged the procedure to be fairer
than the other Ss. Results support the hypothesis that
affirmative-action implementation procedures significantly
affect a variety of individual responses, including general
affect, evaluations of procedural and outcome fairness, and
evaluations of a relevant subunit of the involved
institution. (16 ref) (PsycLIT Database Copyright 1985
