ERIC TITLE NUMBER: ED104298 AUTHOR:
TITLE: Women at UCI. A Handbook for All Students, Faculty,
and Staff.
YEAR PUBLISHED: 1975
NOTE: 28 p.
ABSTRACT: In the spring of 1974, the Program in Comparative
Culture offered a class entitled "Women in Higher
Education." Out of that class, which explored the
traditional values of education and employment and their
effect on women in academia, came a series of questions
concerning the status of women on the Irving campus. This
handbook is the final result of that class and its
exploratory surveys. This handbook attempts to show the
current situation for women at Irving: the present status
of
female employees and students, the academic and support
services available to them, and existing vehicles for
further action. Through pointing out problems,
disseminating
information, and suggesting goals, this handbook hopes to
provoke questions and actions to improve the status of
women
on the campus. Discussed in the handbook is the present
status of women on the Irving campus (student surveys,
statistical delineation); women's studies at the University
of California-Irvine (historical and present status,
classes
offered in 1975); new directions (affirmative action,
groups
and services); and the appendix that includes the
questionnaire, responsbilities of an affirmative action
officer, federal laws of concern to affirmative action and
equal employment for women. (Author/PG)

This is an ERIC database document. ERIC is the National
Education Information Network for providing ready access
to the literature of education -descriptions of exemplary
programs, research and development efforts, and related
information that can be used in developing more effective
educational programs. The ERIC database is currently
available on CD-ROM in the main library (ground floor of
the west wing) at Michigan State University. To locate
ERIC documents in the library identify the first line of
each record (i.e., the field ERIC TITLE NUMBER). ED
following ERIC TITLE NUMBER indicates an ERIC document,
an unpublished research study. Most of these items are
available in the Microforms library, located on the 3rd
floor of the west wing. All you need is the six digit ED
number. If EJ follows ERIC TITLE NUMBER the item is a
journal article. The complete journal name is listed after
the code JOURNAL.
