ABSTRACT: Results of the most recent Administrative Salary
Survey of the Association of American Medical Colleges are
analyzed. The data represent 94 U.S. medical schools, with
the number of applicable staff positions ranging from two
to
52 per institution. The positions considered included those
which at least 20 percent of the time was spent in
specifically delineated management functions, and under the
of the medical school dean. The following functions
were reviewed: accounting; business affairs; business
planning; contracts and grants management; controller; data
processing; personnel; physical plant; purchasing;
admissions; minority affairs; registrar; student affairs;
student counseling; student financial aid; development;
facilities planning; practice plan management; program
planning; and public relations. The data collection form,
instructions, and codes are included with a brief
discussion
