All Conference attendees are invited to this informal gathering to visit with others while enjoying complimentary snacks and a cash bar. Register for the conference and check into the hotel at this time.

SPEAKERS

Ralph Heiden,  Extension Horticulture Agent for Jackson County has a Masters degree in horticulture and has lectured throughout Michigan, Ohio and Indiana. Ralph's garden includes over 1,500 species and cultivars of woody and herbaceous perennials and over 250 cultivars of hosta alone. (517) 788-4292 or e-mail at heiden@msue.msu.edu

Mary Mclellanhas served as the statewide coordinator for the MSU Master Gardening program for over 10 years. She has significant experience teaching all around Michigan. Mary has done extensive traveling, touring gardens all over England. (517) 353-3774 or mclellan@msue.msu.edu

Joyce Wardwell is the founder of the "Plant People" a collective group of herbalists dedicated to teaching and working with medicinal herbalism. She lectures on the benefits of herbs for health thought the country. She is the author of the "Herbal Home Remedy Book", "Marvelous Meals From Your Garden and Beyond" and the pervious editor of "Herbal Voices:, the Journal of Self-Reliant Herbalism". 3:30-5:00 p.m.- "Ergo Gardening" - Shelly Conley. During this session you will learn how the principles of
                            ergonomics, such as good posture and body mechanics can reduce the strain on your
                            body while gardening. This session will also involve a demonstration of several ergonomic
                            tools and an exercise program to help you stay injury free while gardening.

Shelly Conley,  is a Certified Athletic Trainer employed at the Boyne Rehabilitation Center. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Medicine from Central Michigan University. She has 10 years of experience in the industry and has received specialized training and education on ergonomics. She also serves as a consultant to businesses on ergonomics helping employers reduce worker injuries. She is excited to share those same ideas with the gardening enthusiast.
