Michigan 4-H Youth-Adult Policy for 4-H Overnight Events
As required by the new Michigan 4 H Youth-Adult Policy for Overnight Events, any youth aged 18, 19 or 20 at the time of the event must not be housed with or share bathrooms with younger, unrelated youth unless he or she has completed a background check, including one reference check and a criminal history check. County MSU Extension staff are responsible for ensuring that the background check is completed before the event. Chaperones must be at least 21 years old at the time of the event.
Scholarship Support for Field Staff Who Serve as Resource People
Field staff who serve as session instructors or county conference assistants (CCAs) attend at no cost beginning in 2008. Field staff who serve as session helpers receive an $80 scholarship which is approximately half the participant conference fee. (Volunteer instructors, helpers and CCAs receive a full scholarship for the participant conference fee.)

Each county has a copy of the 4-H Exploration Days Promotional and Orientation DVD produced in March 2008. Please make use of the one in your county!
4-H Business and Entrepreneurship Expo & Marketplace
If you’re interested in starting your own business or in learning new ways to build your current business, check out the 4-H Business and Entrepreneurship Expo sessions (listed in the Animal and Veterinary Science; Careers; Food, Nutrition and Fitness; and Visual Arts and Crafts sections). Participants in these sessions will showcase and sell their products during specific meal times at the 4-H Marketplace. (If you attend another session, remember to stop by and check out their wares!).
Cool Things to See & Do at MSU
Learn more about the variety of attractions on MSU campus during late afternoon and evening on Wednesday and Thursday. Day, time and location details will be listed in the Activity Guide provided at the event. The possibilities include:
- Abrams Planetarium – Take in a narrated sky show to learn about the stars and planets.
- 4-H Children’s Garden – Experience the many themed gardens within the world-famous 4-H Children’s Garden.
- “Helpful Hints for the College-Bound” – Prepare for college by attending this presentation by the MSU Offices of Admissions and Financial Aid.
- Jack Breslin Student Events Center – Tour the home of the MSU Spartan basketball teams and a variety of sports, music and other events. See the locker rooms, media room and “star signing” wall that are not normally open to the public.
- MSU Bikes Service Center – Hourly bicycle rentals available for a small fee; a refundable deposit is required. Located west of Farm Lane, near the bridge along the river trail.
- MSU Bug House – See the Entomology Department’s amazing collection of creepy critters – both live and pinned.
- MSU Campus Walking Tour –Get a broad overview of some of the campus highlights.
- MSU Farms Tours –Travel by bus to visit the MSU Dairy and Sheep Facilities or the MSU Horse and Beef Facilities.
- MSU Dairy Store – See where MSU makes its very own ice cream and cheese, and consider purchasing a yummy snack while you’re there.
- MSU Museum – Explore the animals, cultures, crafts and much more on display at MSU’s very own museum.
- MSU Skandalaris Football Center – Tour this $15 million facility for teaching, learning and training MSU football stars.
- National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory – Tour a world-class nuclear research facility that has advanced knowledge in fields such as medicine and national security.
During your leisure time at 4-H Exploration Days you can also
bowl, shoot pool, dance, ice skate, swim and more!
