Matt and City of Monroe employee Matt Maniaci and the portable sawmill operator, Todd Burtcher, from Toledo, stack wide inch and half thick boards for city use.

Milling The portable sawmill turns logs into trimmed boards for use by the city of Monroe, material for pallets, and firewood (slabs with bark and trim strips). Todd exchanged his sawing services for a share of the wood boards, meeting two goals for the city: obtaining sawed wood for various needs while getting rid of a quantity of unmarketable logs at no cost to taxpayers.

Gallery The following wood items were created from the waste wood, including ash, sawed in the previous photos. Monroe city forester John Giarmo and his crew, including Matt M. above, created tables, benches and a clock for use by their department, and some crew members also took home some of the waste wood to experiment with, learning carpentry skills and exercising creativity.
