NCR SARE Grant Program for 2003-Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) is funded through the USDA Cooperative State Research, Education and Extension Service (CSREES) under Subtitle B, Chapter 1 of Title XVI of the Food, Agriculture, Conservation and Trade Act of 1996. The purpose of the SARE Program is to generate and disseminate information that is sound and practical about alternative farming systems believed to have the potential to increase the sustainability of agriculture.

The SARE Program encourages the development of closer relationships between research and extension, enhanced involvement and cooperation with farmers, and meaningful involvement in research and/or education by private institutions and organizations in the region.
