Plant No. 17

Posted October 28, 2003

The dandelion looking leaves produce blossoms much like many evening primroses. When it is dark in the evening, the blossoms open within a matter of seconds. As I remember, they were pale yellow.  - Submitted by Louise Riggs, Jackson County

The consensus among Jennie Stanger, MSUE Agent in Monroe County, Marion Harris and Margot from Wayne County is that these are the leaves of a type of evening primrose of the species, Oenothera flava. This is a relative of the more commonly grown evening primrose, Oenothera missouriensis.
